PRODUCT ON TRIAL: Wen Haircare System

Hey girls! So I decided to try something new on my blog.  I recently received some haircare products (sent to me to review) and have been testing them out for the better part of 2 months now.  Here is my verdict on the whole system, broken out by each product. Enjoy!

Product #1: Cleansing ConditionerWEN® Cleansing Conditioner

The Marketing Pitch
WEN® Cleansing Conditioner is a revolutionary new concept in hair care. A 5-in-1 formula, this one product takes the place of your shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, detangler and leave-in conditioner. It cleanses hair thoroughly but without lathering and all the harsh ingredients that may be found in ordinary shampoos—it is designed so it won't strip your hair and scalp of their natural oils. Your hair is left with sheen, moisture, manageability and better color retention.

Inside the Bottle
Water (Aqua), Glycerin, Cetyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Prunus Serotina (Wild Cherry) Bark Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Hydrolyzed Wheat, Protein, Panthenol, Butylene Glycol, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine, Polysorbate 60, PEG-60 Almond Glycerides, Amodimethicone, Citric Acid, Menthol, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Fragrance (Parfum, Limonene.

My two cents: Not at all impressed by the first 4 ingredients.  Keep in mind that the top 3-5 ingredients make up about 70% of the overall product... if not more.  So we have water (super, I have that in the shower thanks), glycerin (a liquid that attracts moisture... good), and 2 types of alcohol (which are drying...?).  I'm slightly confused.  If the goal is a super rich, moisturizing 2-in-1, why so much alcohol?

Use Instructions
1. Divide hair into 4 equal sections (split hair horizontally and vertically).
2. Pump 3-4 full pumps of product into hand.
3. Apply to one of the sections (all over), focusing on the ends of the hair.
4. Repeat for other 3 sections.  Leave in for 5 minutes or more (longer you leave it in the better)
5. Rinse with cool water.

First Impression
Overall: I was amazed how much product you needed to use each time you shampooed.  Jeepers, that's like half the bottle!  I cut it down significantly by only dividing my hair into 2 sections (my hair is super fine) and applying 2 pumps to each section.
Ingredients:
Consistency: Opaque, thick like conditioner but not overly so.  Nothing to complain about here.
Scent: I liked it.  Sort of minty.

Results
I admit, my hair is super soft after I use it.  I did use the entire bottle and it lasted about 2.5 months for me (I have really long, super fine hair).  I still don't like the alcohol content in it, which to me, defeats the purpose of a super-moisturizer.  I only use it on the ends of my hair after using a regular shampoo on the roots because I found my hair was too greasy if I just used this products as a 2-in-1.

Product #2: WEN® Re Moist Intensive Hair TreatmentWEN® Intensive Hair Treatment

The Marketing Pitch
This intensive hair mask was designed for use before and after any chemical treatment or to de-stress hair. It's designed to add the ultimate moisture, body, and shine to restore and strengthen even extremely damaged hair.

Inside the Bottle
Water (Aqua), Cetyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Alcohol,Glyceri, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Prunus Serotina (Wild Cherry) Bark Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Hydrogenated Coconut Oil, Gardenia Tahitensis Flower, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Panthenol, Butylene Glycol, Amodimethicone, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Polysorbate 60, PEG-60 Almond Glycerides, Citric Acid, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Menthol, Fragrance (Parfum), Limonene, Hexyl Cinnamal, Annatto (CI 75120).

My two cents: Again with the alcohol!  What the heck?

Use Instructions
1. After your shower, apply a massive dollop into the bottom half of your hair.
2. Leave in for 30 minutes or more (can do overnight too)
3. Rinse thoroughly.

First Impression
Overall: My sister-in-law Lauren absolutely LOVED this product.  She has very long, extremely thick hair and said her hair felt buttery soft the next day.  I didn't notice a massive "WOW" difference in my hair but it was very soft.
Consistency: Thick, slightly yellow like a paste
Scent: Minty, which I like.

Results
I hate that I have to wash it out after I use it.  That's extremely annoying.  I tried to rinse it out in the sink the first time but my hair kept going down the drain (gross) and I missed parts in the middle of my hair so I woke up with a ring of greasiness in the middle of my head.  Lauren rinsed hers in the shower (smart girl).

Product #3: WEN® Styling Crème
WEN Styling Creme
The Marketing Pitch
Instead of using a gel for hold and a polishing gloss for shine, you can achieve both with WEN® Styling Crème. This creamy styling product is designed to help promote moisture, shine and body all in one formula. It's also designed to manage split ends while improving texture and providing frizz control.

Inside the Bottle
Water (Aqua), Propylene Glycol, Cyclopentasiloxane, Cyclotetrasiloxane, Phenyl Trimethicone, Polyacrylamide, Dimethiconol, C13-14 Isoparaffin, Laureth-7, Panthenol, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Butylene Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Benzoic Acid, Dehydroacetic Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance (Parfum), Citral, Citronellol, Hydroxycitronellal, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Linalool.

My two cents: Sweet! No alcohol! But a lot of ingredients I can't pronounce.

Use Instructions
1. After your shower, apply a quarter-sized dollop (for long/thick hair) into the bottom half of your hair.
2. Style as usual.

First Impression
Overall: I actually quite liked this one.  I felt like it protected my hair from the heat from the blowdryer.
Consistency: Similar to the conditioner but a little less thick.
Scent: Minty, which I like.

Results
I felt like it gave my hair a nice healthy shine and my ends didn't look as frayed after. Score!

Have you guys ever tried this line before?  If so, did you like it?

I've tried Wen before. I quite liked it, although it is rather pricey and I find I went through it pretty fast. I've heard of a dupe of Wen from Sally's called "One", but i've yet to try it.

PS your new blog layout looks great :)

i have long curly hair & wen conditioner made it look beauuutiful! however i agree with you on why the alcohol,, plus i got the 32 oz bottle for like $84 and because my hair is so long i probably go through $15 worth every time i wash it... if i'm stuck with alcohol anyway i find that tressemme does a good job for a much cheaper price.

Cetyl Alcohol and Cetearyl Alcohol aren't drying forms of alcohol like ethyl alcohol is - they are "fatty" alcohols which are more thickening/binding agents for products. They won't cause any drying or harm.

This review was one of the most helpful reviews I have come across! I hope you continue reviewing beauty products! The comment with the "fatty alcohols" was very helpful too. This seems like an all around good product. I have never tried this product, but I have seen it on TV. You said you have fine hair. I do too. Did it seem like it was too much product for the hair? Would this product be money well spent?

I've seen this product on infomercials for a while now. I've stayed away though because everything I've read online says it's very expensive and you go through a lot of product. :(

The flat ironing spray I really like. It smells amazing, and it did give me some frizz control. It was a very warm night out, and I spray it on, and then straightened my hair with my flat iron. I will keep using this.

I used Wen for a couple months and disliked the product. I have super fine and short hair and it gets weighted down significantly. I also am a light blonde and the color of my hair went to a brassy color when using the products. Over all not a good product

great product for my hair. i think it depends on the results for which you are looking. i have naturally wavy hair. fine strands, but a lot of hair, so it's a full to thick head of hair, just not coarse. i can avoid official 'shampooing' for a week using wen conditioner/shampoo. AND I use waaaay less than recommended with excellent results. That equals saving $$$ which will actually make me a more likely repeat customer in the long term.

This review was really helpful as well as the other comments. I have been using Wen products for 3 weeks or so and have been happy with them. Initially my hair was as soft as silk but after I got it highlighted it struggled to keep it soft.

I have used wen for more than a year now. It took my dried out frizzed hair to curly and hydrated. It took mr a while to figure out how much to use but more importantly how well to rinse. Just when u think u have rinsed well enough ....add rinse more. The results are great. I was a wash every day condition all the time person. Now I wash once every three-day and my hair looks like I curl it with hot rollers yet its natural. It took about 2 months tob get it there.but oh so worth it. I also buy the gallons off qvc that makes wen more affordable.
